How To Make Your Decluttering Business Stand Out

There are many ways to declutter and organise a home. Most Professional organisers stick to the basics and do not go further than that – declutter, clean, replace, remove unwanted items, finish.

When you have a unique selling proposition, you really don’t have any competition because you are not following what everyone else is doing. You are leading the way.

This is important because there are lots of removalists, cleaners and minimalists out there, but when you approach you role with a dedication beyond the normal, you can create an irresistible offer that benefit your clients far beyond their expectations.

Although there are many that can be noted, I have listed  5 additional and highly valuable services for you to consider including in your Decluttering Client Package.

1. ELEMENTAL CLEANING

When you enter a clients home for the first time, you might find there is a particular feel to it.

Does it feel warm, or cool? Does it feel inviting or is it the opposite? Is there a sense of joy in the home, or stillness?

Whatever it may be that you sense, that is the energy of the home. The people that inhabit the home will also infuse the home with there own individual energy. This can impact a persons wellbeing, inner balance, and ability to thrive within their day.

When I have completed an initial client consult, I offer Elemental Cleaning as a value add.

This takes about 5 minutes, it removes stagnant energy from the home, and creates a clean energetic space to work from when decluttering.

Energetic cleansing has the benefit of remaining long after it has been performed. It can raise vibrations in the clients home and make it a better place to live, sleep, and spend their time.

The 5 Elements of this cleansing include earth, fire, water, wood, and metal which work in synergy to create a balanced space.

For some clients, it may sound a bit woo-woo, but it is a practice that reaches back to the early Zhou dynasty (1046–256 bce).

2. Organisational System Design

When a house has been decluttered, not only does this mean the removal of excess or unwanted items, it also includes organisational solutions such as places and spaces where items are deposited.

For example, the pantry may have clear plastic containers for food staples (eg flour, cereals).

Bedrooms may have tubs for seasonal clothes and soft toys. The office may include a container for all electronic cords and associated accessories.

These organisational storage solutions are different from Organisation Systems because the later is a plan of attack to maintain the newly decluttered space.

If you want to create an Organisational Plan or System for your client, this starts with understanding how your client uses their different spaces. This will include you understanding respective foot traffic – where do they walk?

For example, as soon as someone walks inside, where do they store their shoes, coats, umbrellas, hats, etc. If you have implemented a new system, this goes in the plan.

Keys  – I once had a client who said every morning she wasted 10 minutes or more looking for her keys. Every Morning! She would put her keys down anywhere, and would forget where they were every time.

Placing a hook inside her pantry cupboard door was not only a game changer , it gave her back over 1 hour each week.

3. Donations and disposal management

Offer services to handle donations and disposal of items, including arranging pick-ups from charitable organisations or recycling facilities. Providing a list of places where they can sell items online or physically eg. Online Marketplaces or Car boot markets etc.

4. Digital Decluttering and Organising

An area that is often overlooked is a good Digital Declutter, and this can be as impactful as a Physical Declutter. Helping clients streamline their digital life (decluttering emails, photos, and files) greatly improves productivity and creates ease.

This starts by developing a logical structure (e.g., Work, Personal, Projects) to move documents, files and photos into appropriate folders.

5.  FOLLOW UP AND MAINTENANCE PLANS

You can provide your clients with advice on maintaining a clutter-free lifestyle, including tips on managing family belongings and routines.  Ongoing support or maintenance plans help clients keep their spaces organised over time, sustaining gate good work you have done for longer.
